- EDNA - Virginia May Ross, 72, of Edna, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing Center in Shawnee Mission, where she had entered July 28.
She was born Jan. 8, 1928, in Chicago, Ill., to Milburn M. and Carrie (Andrist) Ross. She graduated from Wichita State University in 1951 with a bachelor of fine arts degree. She was a free-lance artist.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Edna.
She is survived by numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the North Edna Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Wilkes officiating. No visitation is scheduled and the casket will be closed.
Memorials to the First Baptist Church of Edna may be left at the Bath Funeral Home, Box 325, Altamont, 67330.

- Virginia was born in Chicago, lllinios, January 8, 1928. She attended Wichita High School in Wichita, Ks.
Virginia graduated from Wichita University, which later became Wichita State University. She graduated in
1951, with a B. F. A degree, drawing and painting. She was a gardener, specializing in growing and selling
creeping phlox. She won the "Best Lawn and Garden" award from the city of Edna, Ks., where she lived.
Virginia was a Christian and was active in her church, the First Baptist Church of Edna. She typed the
church bulletin for 17 years. Virginia was an animal lover and owned dogs and cats. She had a kind heart
and couldn't turn a stray animal away. She had a quick and witty sense of humor that seems to run in the
Andrist family. Virginia had a major stroke on the evening of July 6, 2000. She was speaking to her Pastor
on the telephone when she had the stroke. He rushed to her house and, with the help of a neighbor, broke
into her house and found her laying on the floor. He called 911, and Virginia was taken to Coffevville
Regional Medical Center. The doctors determined that she had a brain aneurism that needed surgery.
Virginia was moved to Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, where she had the brain
surgery. She contracted pneumonia while in the hospital. She was moved to Shawnee Gardens Nursing
Home and passed away a week later. Virginia is buried next to her mother in the North Edna Cemetery in
Edna, Kansas.
