- Estella "Stella" Lavern Best, 90, Rt. 1 Box 191, Oak Grove Road, died at 4:59 a.m. Friday at the Washington Nursing Center.
The funeral will be at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gill Chapel. The Rev. Valarie Foughty-Killion will officiate with interment in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Eastern Star service will be at 6 p.m. Monday.
She was born to Oliver Morton Standeford and Meadia A. Morton, on June 2, 1908, in Daviess County. She married Charles Lindy on Sept. 5, 1928 and he preceded her in death. She later married James Howard Best on Nov. 26, 1935 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1971.
Best was a retired telephone operator serving for 29 years. She had attended Longfellow School and was a Maysvile United Methodist Church member. Also, she was an Eastern Star and Hoosier Pioneers of Retired Telephone Operators member.
Surviving are: a daughter, Rebecca Newton, Washington; two grandsons and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Lindy; two sisters and two brothers.
