- "Ozark Man Crash Victim -- Straight and wide, Hwy. 65 north of Ozark continues to pile up a grim toll of traffic accidents and fatalities.
Last Thursday night, a 60 year old Ozark man, Howard Mendel became another victim when he died in a two car crash a short distance from where four people lost their lives in a similar crash slightly over a month ago.

Surviving Mendel are his wife, Sibyl; four daughters, Mrs. Luenetta Hale, Oldfield, Mrs. Lavatta Carter, Springfield, Mrs. Oma Dean Bagley, of the home, and Mrs. Marjie Bilyeu. of Ozark; two brothers, Virgil, Ava, and Leslie, Yucaipa, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Ellison, Vinita, Okla., and Mrs. Edith Banks, Yakima, Wash.; his mother, Mrs. Dora Ann Mendel, Springfield; and four granddaughters.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Clinkingbeard Chapel at Ava with burial in Springcreek Cemetery."
