OAKLAND CITY -- Charles R. Armstrong, 78, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville of complications of a stroke.
He graduated from Oakland City High School and Oakland City University and did his graduate work at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
He taught school in Gary and retired from Wood Memorial High School in Oakland City in 1985.
He was a World War II Marine corporal and was a member of the Princeton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1147, Oakland City American Legion Post 256 and Oakland City First General Baptist Church.
He was a basketball referee and a baseball umpire in Southern Indiana.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Helen Wallis of Princeton; and a niece and two nephews.
Arrangements are pending at Corn Colvin Funeral Home.
