Mrs. G.F. Henry
A life's mission was fulfilled and brought to a close late Saturday, February 24th, when Mrs. G.F. Henry passed away at their home following a long and critical heart ailment.
It is with a great deal of sorrow that we are called on to write the last chapter of this life and a few facts as we knew and loved her.
Julia Ann Downey was born at Glasco, Kans., July 17, 1870 to Honorah Hurley and John J. Downey, Sr. and departed this life on Febr. 24, 1940 at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 13 days.
She was united in holy bonds of matrimony to George Franklin Henry, November 22, 1897. To this union were born four children: Elsie Benson of Great Bend, Kansas, John of Wichita, Ella Olson of this city and George Franklin, Jr. of Dayton, Ohio.
Mrs. Henry was an intelligent honest woman with a keen sense of humor and endowed with the attributes of a kind and loving mother who was tireless in her devotion and work for her family and religion. Her greatest interest in life was her home and family and when her children were with her she worked to make their beautiful home the center of their life and their friends. Even when they grew up and scattered to homes of their own and filled useful places in their communities it was her great joy to have them return to her home; the thirteen grandchildren shared in that love and devotion.
Mrs. Henry was also deeply devoted in her religion and to her kind and loving husband.
Mrs. Henry leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, her four children and 13 grandchildren, four sisters, Mary Paul, Kansas City; Johanna Loftus, Ella Murray, Jamestown; Mrs. Maggie LaRocque of Kankakee, Ill, and six brothers, Tom, Tim, Richard, John Jr., Will and George, all of Glasco.
All that loving hands and hearts could do were done for this wife, mother and sister as the family were ministrants in the home and at the bedside all during the time of the illness.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church. Rev. Fr. Bevak sang the Requiem High Mass and Rev. Fr. McErlean of Concordia gave the sermon. Jimmy Olson, a grandson, and Louis Clark were altar boys. The pallbearers were six nephews: Will Murray, Richard Loftus, Wm. Francoeur, Joe Downey, Frances Downey and Abner Herbin.
Interment was made in the St. Mary's cemetery.
A large host of friends who came to pay their last earthly homage was a tribute of the high esteem and love in which Mrs. Henry and her family are held in this community.
The business houses were closed during the funeral in deference to Mr. Henry who has maintained a Glasco business since 1896.
