- Alva ''Pete'' Shafer, 86, Port Charlotte, died Jan. 10, 1996.
He was born May 14, 1909, in Oatsville, Ind., and came to Port Charlotte 38 years ago from Petersburg, Ind. A restaurant and service station owner, he was a member of the Knights of Pithious Lodge in Petersburg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Punta Gorda.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Jill Overbey of Port Charlotte; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Paul Schelm Funeral Home. The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
