Deceased Name: Robert J. Groben
Robert J. "Bob" Groben, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, formerly of Evansville, Ind., Paducah, Ky., Knoxville,Tenn., and Sarasota, Fla., died Monday, July 15, 2002, at Carolina Meadows Retirement Community.
Bob, a native of Evansville, Ind., was a 1942 graduate of F. J. Reitz High School.
After service with the Army 67th Field Hospital in World War II, he graduated from Purdue University in 1949, with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
As an employee of the Union Carbide Corp. at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant for 25 years, Bob became supervisor of the Mechanical/Civil/ Structural Department of the Plant Engineering Division before transferring to the Oak Ridge Y-12 Facility in a similar capacity. Bob retired from Union Carbide in 1984.
Bob is survived by one daughter, Pamela Groben-Tomberg M.D. of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one son, Glen Groben M.D. of Boise, Idaho; one brother, Richard Groben of Sarasota, Fla.; and one grandson, Joshua Tomberg of Chapel Hill, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Young Groben.
A memorial service will be held at the Old Dam Park off Highway 662 in Newburgh, Ind., on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at 3 p.m.
