The World War II veteran was member First Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 420, Hazleton Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, 40 & 8 and Mount Carmel Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Coleman; a daughter, Beth Toepfer of Haubstadt; a son, Jay of Vincennes; two brothers, Gordon of Hazleton and J.C. of Oakland City; and a grandchild. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Garder Funeral Home, with burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be at 7 p.m.
