    • The burial place of Joseph Lewis and other family members is a private cemetery in Lewis Cemetery located in Clay Township, Pike County, Indiana west of SR65 near the town of Union, Indiana. We have verified the location of this cemetery with personal visits and photos of his ancestors. A military monument in the name of Joseph Lewis has been erected there thanks to the efforts of another relative, although the monument apparently is not in the exact location of the grave site of Joseph Lewis.

Military Joseph Lewis from Pike County Indiana mustered into the 42nd Indiana Infantry on Oct. 9, 1861 at Evansville, Indiana. We are told he was seriously injured in battle and after a long hiatus, did rejoin his unit and mustered out of the Union army on July 21, 1865. There is record of a pension received on his behalf.
