- Sibyl Mendel, 90. Sibyl Mendel, age 90, of Ozark, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 in Springfield Rehab Healthcare, Springfield.
She was born Oct. 5, 1912 in Squires, Mo., the daughter of Arlander and Mertie Mae (Fletcher) Wilson. In 1936 she was united in marriage to Howard Mendel.
Survivors include four children, Luenetta Hale and husband Kenneth, Oldfield, Lavatta Carter and husband, Robert, Springfield, Marjie Bilyeu, and husband James, Ozark, and Oma Bagley, Ozark; five grandchildren, Retha Denise Nelson and husband, Mike, Oldfield, Sandra Maggard and husband, Dave, Oldfield, Tina Freeman and husband Troy, Nickerson, Kansas, Robin Pepper and husband Cliff, Springfield, and Teresa Bilyeu, Ozark; four great-grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Nelson, Karen Nelson, Jessica Pepper, and Gregg Carter; two step-great-grandchildren, William and Bobby Freeman; three sisters, Lois Jenkins, Ava, Neva Wilson and Gertrude Merkel, both of Texas; and a brother-in-law, Leslie Mendel, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 1971, her parents, brothers and sisters, Rolla, Eva, Opal, Farce, and Conda, and a son-in-law, Jack L. Bagley.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, in Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Spring Creek Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Adams Funeral Home, Ozark."
