- "Services Monday for Roland J. Mendel, 74 -- Funeral services for Roland J. Mendel, who died Thursday, April 27, were held at the Walnut Grove church on Monday, April 21, with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Jim Davis of Ava, assisted by Steven Black of Neosho, conducted the services, with the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in charge of burial.
Mr. Mendel, son of Anna and Jerry M. Mendel, was born June 15, 1877, in Dearborn County, Ind., and died at the home of his son, Howard, at Brown Branch, Mo., at the age of 74 years, 10 months and two days.
He was untied in marriage to Dora Ann Jennings on June 3, 1906, at Rome, Mo., and to this union five children were born, all of whom survive: Virgil of Rome, Howard of Brown Branch, Leslie of Redland, Calif., Mrs. Edith Bank Yakima, Wash., and Mrs. Grace Ellison, Claremore, Okla.
Mr. Mendel was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was baptized August 11, 1910, and ordained to preach on Feb. 27, 1915. He spent most of his life in Missouri except the last six years when he lived in Claremore.
Besides his wife and children Mr. Mendel is survived by 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Minnie Willis of Delaware, Okla., three nieces and two nephews."
