Rose Cotrupe Obituary Mrs. Rose M. (Rizzo) Cotrupe, age 75, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, October 13, 1999.
Born in Utica on June 26, 1924, Rose was the daughter of the late Frank and Assunta (Ambruso) Rizzo. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School. On October 26, 1946, she married Daniel P. Cotrupe with whom she celebrated a loving union for almost 53 years. Upon the occasion of the couple's 50th wedding anniversary, they renewed their marriage vows thereby affirming their lifetime of mutual respect, admiration and affection. At that time, as for all the years before, Rose and Dan exemplified the true meaning of married life: their love was gentle, selfless, abiding and constant.
Mrs. Cotrupe spent most of her working career as a waitress, first at the Hotel Utica and later at the Seneca Inn, the Imperial Restaurant and Rizzo's Restaurant. At each of her places of employment, she established a reputation as a hard worker, a conscientious employee and a good waitress who served her clientele with efficiency, competence and courtesy. She was a communicant of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
Rose was raised in a family inspired by love for one another; she was taught to accept responsibility, to appreciate both the necessity and the rewards of honest work, and to put others, especially her loved ones, before herself. She later handed down these values, traditions and life lessons to her own children, teaching them both by word and by example. A woman of generous and unassuming self-sacrifice, she was an understanding and caring friend to her daughters and sons as well as their devoted mother. Although Rose was dearly loved by family and friends alike, it was with her grandchildren that she shared special and reciprocal bonds of affection; as a result, they will forever cherish their memories of her, taking inspiration and guidance from her legacy.
Mrs. Cotrupe is survived by her husband, Dan; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane C. and John Petzke, Jr., of Cassville; and her three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Linda Cotrube, of VA, Daniel P. and Deborah Cotrupe, of West Falls, NY, and Frank and Carol Cotrupe, of Whitesboro. She is also survived her beloved grandchildren, Michele Cotrupe, Brandi Cotrupe, Leigh Cotrupe, David Cotrupe, Rebecca Cotrupe, John Petzke III, Danielle Petzke, paul Petzke, Pamela Petzke, Frank Cotrupe, Michael Cotrupe, Matthew Cotrupe, Samuel Cotrupe, Francesca Cotrupe and Vincent Cotrupe, and two great-grandchildren. Also surviving ar a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Peter Tenenini, of Clinton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Pasquale and Joann of CaA, Dominick and Angela Rizzo, of FL and Utica, and Michael and Candy Rizzo, of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, and a brother-in-law, Darby Longo. In addition Rose was blessed with many dear and loyal friends who will miss her very much. She was predeceased by her siblings, Philomena Carciofolo, John Rizzo, Theresa Rizzo and Rocco Rizzo.
Visitation will be held on Friday (today) from 5-8 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Mrs. Cotrupe's funeral will commence on Saturday morning at 10:45 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament where her Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated.
