- John H. Blaize, 91, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009, at his home.
John worked at the Evansville Main Post Office, and retired in 1981 after 14 years. He also worked at Daylight Feed Mill for several years. He attended First Christian Church and was a member of Christian Fellowship Church. He was also a member of the Scott Township Fire Department. John served in the U.S. Army for 4 1/2 years from 1941 to 1945 in the 4th Armored Division under General Patton. He enjoyed baseball and basketball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He also enjoyed gardening, camping and playing cards. He was a member of VFW No. 1114.
John loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Julia M. Blaize; sons, David Blaize and wife Rosie of Evansville, Ronnie Blaize of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Eddie Blaize and wife, Jama, of Henderson, Ky.; daughters, Carol Travers and husband, Steve, of Henderson, Ky.; and Sue Chase of Evansville, Ind.; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Ziemer Funeral Home Central Chapel, 626 N. First Ave., Evansville.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at the funeral home, with the Reverend Mike Partridge officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, where the Retired Veteran's Memorial Club will conduct graveside services.
