- Kay Carson Young, 71, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Carson was born in Selvin, Indiana, on January 11, 1941, to the late Charles E. and Eugene (Sanders) Young. Carson graduated from North High School in 1959, and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. He went on to co-own and operate Rem-Kay Business Equipment for 24 years. Carson served as a past president of the Bluegrass Office Machine Dealer Association and was voted "Boss of the Year" by the American Business Women's Association in 1983. Carson was a member of the Reed Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Hadi Shrine Temple. He was a member and past president of the Hadi Shrine Director's Staff, was Director of the Year in 1986, and served as Director in 1989 and 1990. He was also a member of the Hadi Shrine Mariners and served as Commodore in 1996, and was Yeoman of the Year in 1993. Other memberships include, Honorary Member of the AKDAR Temple, Kentucky Colonel and Swords of Bunker Hill. He attended St. Matthews United Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.
Carson is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda (Simpson) Young, of Evansville, Ind.; son, Scott Young (Melissa), of Evansville, Ind.; sister, Nancy Barker, of Owensboro, Ky.; grandchildren, Adison Young, Nathan Young and Justin Young.
Carson was preceded in death by his son, Eliot Carson Young, in 2012; parents; sister, Juanita Thering; brother, Buddy Young; and his brother-in-law and best friend, Kenny Simpson.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 E. Diamond Ave., Evansville, Ind., with Rev. Arthur Christmas officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the Retired Veterans Memorial Club.
Friends may visit from 2 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Browning Funeral Home, where the Hadi Shrine will perform a walkthrough followed by a Masonic memorial service by Reed Lodge at 7 p.m.
