MRS CARRIE ANN SCHILLINGER
Carrie Ann Andrist. daughter of Carl and Louise Andrist. was born in Carlonville. Illinios. April 24. 1862.
This was a Methodist home in which Peter Cartright and William McElfresh were frequent visitors.
She was one offour children. one of whom. A. E. Andrist. of Kansas City, Kansas, survives her. As a baby. she
was taken to Sunday School and church and early in life gave her heart to the Lord and united with the church.
After graduating from the public schools of Carlinville. she attended the Blackburn University for two years. At
the age of sixteen. she moved with her parents to California. Missouri. On December 25. 1879. she was united
in marriage to Dr Len Schillinger, who was a practicing dentist. To this union three children were born. one of
whom, Mrs. Edna Mae Webster. survives her.
In 1892, the family came to California and located in Petaluma. Four years later Dr. Schillinger yielded to a
long-felt call and entered the Home Mission service of the California Conference. Mrs. Schillinger was in full
sympathy with her husband and to the missionary work she consecrated her entire being. Seventeen busy.
fruitful years were given to loving ministry among the Indians-fourteen of these. in two terms of seven years
each. in the Round Valley Indian Mission, whence she was called from labor to reward.
Mrs. Schillinger was her husband's true helpmate. a loving mother. and a true friend to the Indian women and
children. Her work as counselor in the homes, and friend ofthe young people, abides. She was a beautiful
character. devoted to her home and child and husband. Though in poor health for years, she was ever cheerful
and of optimistic sprit. She continually saw the best in the people to whom they ministered, and when others
were discouraged and questioned the value of the work her faith and love prevailed. She died in Berkeley on
January 4, 1926. Funeral services were held in Trinity Church. conducted by F. P. flegaL assisted by H. H.
Frost, A. C. Bane and B. B. Conner. Her body sleeps in beautiful Mountain View Cemetery. Oakland, Ca. Her
redeemed and glorious spirit lives forever with the Lord.
"And they shall see His face, and His name shall be in their foreheads and there shall be no night there. for the
Lord God givith then light: and they shall reign forever and ever."
