Dr. Robert H. Dilcher, 83, a retired Allentown urologist, died Tuesday in Luther Crest Retirement Community, South Whitehall Township.
Formerly of Allentown, he was the husband of the late Isabel B. (Clapp) Dilcher.
He operated a private practice in Allentown from 1949 until retiring in 1985. He served on staff of the former Allentown Hospital, where he was chief of urology, president of the medical staff and head of the Ex-Interns and Ex-Residents Association.
A graduate of Muhlenberg College, with a bachelor's degree in science, Dilcher received his medical degree from the Unversity of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1938.
While interning at Allentown Hospital in 1939, he was head of student health at Muhlenberg College, and served his residency at Allentown in 1940.
Dilcher was secretary and president of Phi Rho Sigma and vice president of the John B. Deaver Surgical Society at the University of Pennsylvania.
He was called into active military duty in 1941, and served in the Army Medical Corps at Fort Indiantown Gap until being discharged as a captain in 1946. During his service he was chief of the genitourinary section.
After his discharge, he returned to the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, specializing in urology. He served his internship and residency in urology at Allentown Hospital, 1947-48.
In 1954, he was named a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Charles S. and Isabella T. (Horn) Dilcher.
He was a financial committee member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Allentown, and a former vestry member.
He was president of the Allentown Rotary Club, 1961-62.

Survivors: Daughters, Isabel, wife of Ralph O. Boehnke Jr. of Ann Arbor, Mich., Barbara, wife of Mark L. Lindner of Naples, Fla., and Martha, wife of Alan J. Schaeffer of Easton; son, Robert H. Jr. of Parma, Ohio; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday in the church. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th and Hamilton streets, Allentown.
